Strokes Gained: Approach-the-Green

This is the single most predictive stat for Masters performance. Augusta’s greens are so severely contoured that the difference between a good approach shot and a great one can be three or four putts. Players who consistently hit the ball close from the fairway - and more importantly, to the correct portion of the green - have a massive advantage.

Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green

Augusta’s greens are some of the fastest and most undulating in golf. Missing the green in regulation isn’t automatically catastrophic - if you know how to get up and down from the collection areas. Players who are elite around the greens can save par from positions that would cost others bogey.

This stat is often overlooked by casual fantasy players who focus exclusively on driving and approach. Don’t make that mistake. The Masters is won and lost in the short game.

Driving Accuracy

This might surprise you given how wide Augusta’s fairways appear on television. But hitting the fairway at Augusta isn’t about avoiding rough - it’s about positioning. Look for players who perform well on the PGA Tour’s fastest greens - particularly at events like the Honda Classic (PGA National) or TPC Sawgrass, which offer some of the most challenging putting surfaces on tour.

• Current form - who is playing well heading into Masters week? Form in March and early April is a real indicator
• Putting on fast greens - check performance at premium putting venues earlier in the season
