What the Pick Data Says About Week 5
Well, it was almost a normal Survivor week! The Jets spoiled what was a relatively tame week in the NFL, with 24% of pickers on Splash backing them in Survivor contests. 41% of entries were eliminated in total during Week 4, with the Jets and Cardinals as the two main culprits. Either way, pickers are heading in the right direction! Let’s look at Week 5 and where Splash pickers are leaning for Survivor and Pick’Em contests.
Fade Daniel Jones
There are plenty of Survivor strategies that players enter each season with. Don’t pick divisional matchups, stay away from road teams unless absolutely necessary, and try to stay away from the biggest public favorite, you get it. But there’s one tried and true strategy that Splash pickers are putting to the test this week: fade Daniel Jones. The Seahawks are headed back home to Seattle after a disappointing (but still impressive) Monday Night Football loss against the Lions and will welcome Daniel Jones and the Giants in Week 5. On paper, this is certainly an easier matchup than their Week 4 opponent, and Splash pickers agree. 30% of Survivor picks are currently on the Seahawks to beat the Giants. With a high-powered offense led by Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, Kenneth Walker III, and rising star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Seahawks should have no problem moving the ball against a shaky Giants defense. Add the uncertain status of Giants star rookie receiver Malik Nabers to the mix and you can see why the public is fading the Giants.
Jayden Daniels Has Arrived
The Commanders have their guy. Jayden Daniels has been lighting up NFL defenses all season long, and while many expected him to put up flashy numbers in his rookie year, few expected the team success that he and the Commanders have achieved so far. Washington is 3-1 and sitting atop the NFC East. You know, the division that has the mighty Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys? Yeah, that division. Daniels and company host the Browns in Week 5 after Washington’s impressive Week 4 road win against the Cardinals.
The wheels are falling off fast for Cleveland. Many expected them to compete in the AFC North after a successful season led by Joe Flacco, but the return of Deshaun Watson has been anything but successful. We’ll give Deshaun some credit, the loss was not on him last week against the Raiders. He showed plenty of flashes of his days in Houston, but some costly drops by his receivers paired with atrocious offensive line play led to another loss to drop them to 1-3. Splash pickers aren’t confident in a Cleveland bounce-back, with 86% of pickers backing the Commanders at home in their Pick’Em contests.
Andy Dalton Revenge Game (Again)
We’ll stop making this joke once Andy Dalton retires. We have ANOTHER Andy Dalton revenge game in store, though this one probably doesn’t hold as much weight as his game against the Bengals. Either way, we’re labeling it a revenge game! The Panthers head to Soldier Field in Week 5 to clash against Caleb Williams and the Bears, fresh off an impressive win against the Rams. The Bears offense seems to be improving week over week, with Williams continuing to make strides, the offensive line getting (slightly) better, and the coaching staff putting more trust into their rookie QB. Splash pickers seem to have picked up on these improvements, with 14% of users taking the Bears in their Survivor contests. Well, either that or there’s nobody better to pick!
Across the Pond
The London series kicks off in Week 5 with a great matchup between the undefeated Vikings and the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets. Opposing teams simply cannot figure out how to stop Sam Darnold and the Vikings offense, or how to score on the Brian Flores-schemed defense. They hold the best record in the NFC and continue to find ways to win games. The Jets have struggled offensively to begin the season, much to the disappointment of fans who were expecting better from their superstar QB Aaron Rodgers. It couldn’t have gotten much worse than the Zach Wilson/Trevor Siemian/Tim Boyle QB carousel of last season, but it hasn’t gotten much better either. Splash pickers aren’t believers in a Week 5 bounce-back for the Jets after their disappointing loss to the Broncos, as 78% of users are backing the Vikings in London.
