Why Splash Beats the Sportsbooks
Last Saturday in Santa Clara, the No. 7 seed Packers had the opportunity to extend their advantage over the No. 1 seed Niners from four to seven with 6:41 to play and a ticket to the NFC Championship Game on the line. Despite its status as 9.5-point underdogs, Green Bay was pushing San Francisco to the brink, and it was in position to knock off the conference’s top two seeds in back-to-back weeks.
That is not what happened. Instead, Anders Carlson hooked the 41-yard field goal try wide to the left, Brock Purdy paraded San Francisco 69 yards down the field to score the go-ahead touchdown, eating more than five minutes off the clock in the process, and Jordan Love’s cardinal sin converted to the game-ending interception. It was compelling, it was emotional, and it was all entirely irrelevant if you bet against the spread with a book.
Every Second Counts with Splash
By the time Carlson lined up for his kick, the game was over for anyone who had taken the 49ers to cover. That had been the case long beforehand, too. Regardless of if the field goal flew through the uprights or if San Francisco could respond positively with its next possession, there wasn’t enough time for the favored Niners to build the 10-point lead their bettors needed from them to come good on their wagers. Packers backers won, and 49ers aligners lost. No matter how exciting of a finish the closing minutes delivered, it was all inevitably empty theater.
That is not the Splash reality. When you play with Splash, each ounce of the real game impacts your performance. In a Pick X contest, it would have all hung in the balance on Saturday in the same way that Love’s last pass did. You would have been living and dying with every snap, just like the fans of Green Bay and San Francisco were. You could have made your new home at the edge of your seat as the drama unfolded in front of you in real time.
But with your bet already effectively settled, what would have been a playoff ending for the ages didn’t quite feel as big, and you spent more time scrolling on your phone than being locked in on each down. That’s not making the most out of special moments.
Make the Whole Game Matter
These instances are not unique to the postseason. When this sort of situation arises in the regular season - and it does, regularly - Survivor contests correct for it, rewarding those who picked winners on the field, not on paper. There is no such thing as technically correct in Survivor. You either know your winners or you don’t, and while that’s being determined, you can feel every tick of a close game’s clock reverberate in your chest.
But not with Splash. In a Pick X contest, it would have all hung in the balance the same way Love’s last passing attempt of the day did. When this sort of thing happens in the regular season - and it does, regularly - Survivor contests correct for it, rewarding those who pick winners on the field, not on paper. And this is just a taste of the many flavors of Splash contests.
Maybe you would rather pick players, not teams. With Splash’s Fantasy Tiers, you can also keep the entirety of every outing relevant to your wallet and attention. Splashers who picked Purdy or Love in one of last week’s Fantasy Tiers were sure interested in how each of the quarterbacks closed out Saturday’s showdown. Even though the outcome of the Texans at Ravens game was all but settled by the start of the fourth quarter, the same could be said for Splash users who put their belief in Lamar Jackson or C.J. Stroud in a Splash Fantasy Tiers contest. I’m sure the Jackson pickers in particular were glued to their TVs while he added two touchdowns, one passing and one rushing, to his statline in the game’s final 15 minutes.
On-Field Results, Not On-Paper Estimates
When you bet against the books, you are at their mercy. They set, and change, the lines. They make, and change, the odds. They don’t do it out of the kindness of their hearts, either; they do it to put themselves in the most preferable position to profit, which means taking as much out of your pocket as possible.
You don’t have to worry about lines, odds, or anything changing with Splash. There is no algorithm working against you, calculating the spreads that will best entice bettors to give the house what it wants. At Splash, everyone puts the same skin in the game. We guarantee the prizes of our bigger contests, and those payouts are all attached to what occurs on the field, no math equation involved.
Get the Most Out of the Season
With the books, you can bet on individual games, and you bet on futures. But what you can’t do is play one contest that lasts an entire season or tournament, all interconnected, and all tied into how clear your crystal ball is.
Contests like Survivor and One and Done allow you to encompass the entirety of the NFL into one enthralling enterprise. The strategy is enhanced, the stakes are heightened, and your only adversaries are the other Splash users who think they know more about the future than you do. You are never playing against Splash in the same way that you are always playing against the books - we facilitate the emotional rawness of sport and help give fans another layer of purpose to their fandom.
Join the Splash Community
Splash offers a community that bookmakers simply can’t. You can play with friends, customizing your contests to make them perfectly fit your needs. Now, your group of buddies has a new common interest to spark conversation and keep the clique close, all minus much of the manual labor traditionally required. Plus, it serves as extra ammunition for when your friend needs to be put in their place. That’s no way to talk to your Survivor champion, is it, Jerry?
Even playing with strangers is more community-oriented than the books. Competing against other sports fans brings you right into the heart of the action with others who are just as obsessed as you. You can feel the difference when your competition is a living, breathing human as opposed to a phone screen, and it makes the wins - and the prizes - that much sweeter.
Unlike the books, we don’t want your lunch money. Here, it’s only the other Splashers who have it out for your cash. The question is: are you going to let them have it, or will you be the one separating them from their surplus?
